Our organization is growing and ambitious, smart, creative people with a passion for technique are very welcome at Bayards, because we are always looking for talented young professionals that want to grow with us.

Your first real job within an international company can be quite intimidating. At Bayards, we understand this like no other. That is exactly why we created the Bayards Aluminium Technical Traineeship: the perfect start after your studies and an ideal basis to establish yourself in the technical world. Of course, we are not going to throw you in the deep end; we will support you during the entire traineeship so you can excel. Because that is our goal: giving ambitious talents a podium so they can shine.

THE PROGRAM

The BATT program is a two year program, divided into four six month periods. During these two years you will be interning in four different departments. This way, you will get to know the company and you can develop yourself in multiple directions.

You will be working in the following departments: Engineering, Production Management, Project Management and Sales. Bayards is a true international player, so a period in one of our foreign markets can also be an option.

BATT YEAR 1

PERIOD 1 - ENGINEERING

What are you going to do?

Calculating for big stair towers for Shell’s new offshore platform or making a helipad report for a new trauma helicopter platform for a hospital in Sydney? Working out the details for one of our many projects in Korea or making drawings for an aluminium bridge in the Netherlands: when you’re working in our engineering team, you will never have a dull moment and there is plenty of variety in the work. Of course, we will take your technical background into account when determining the assignments.

How are you going to develop yourself?

By working intensively on different engineering projects, you get a good look on how things work in the Engineering department and the processes that occur here. Also, you will learn the impact from other departments on the Engineering department, such as Sales or Project Management. Of course, you will also learn a lot about metallurgy.

Your analytical abilities will be put to the test during this module, as well as your team spirit.

PERIOD 2 – PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

What are you going to do?

Your period in the production organization will start on the floor. You could for example work a few weeks on the top section of an aluminium super yacht or one of our big assembly jobs and you will learn everything about the machines we use to manufacture our products. This assignment can be done in the Netherlands, but most definitely also elsewhere.

After having worked in the Production for a few weeks, you will continue this period as an assistant Production Manager. This job means planning the manufacturing process. Examples of possible assignments are planning and organizing the maintenance for the machines, but also researching possibilities for improvement when it comes to the production facilities.

How are you going to develop yourself?

During this period, you will focus on developing your planning and organizing skills, as well as managing a team. In addition, your problem solving abilities, practical skills and insight will be relevant in this stage of the traineeship.

BATT YEAR 2

PERIOD 1 – PROJECT MANAGEMENT

What are you going to do?

Bayards is a real project based organization, which means that no two projects are the same. In this phase of the traineeship you will work closely with one of our Senior Project Managers and your days will consist of planning and organizing projects. You will have a lot of contact with our international clients and colleagues and are also responsible for timely project meetings. You also help preparing new projects, are in contact with the Purchasing department and will assist in keeping a correct (financial) project administration.

How are you going to develop yourself?

You will learn how to organize and plan projects and how the most important stakeholders – the clients and internal departments – can be best involved in these projects. Therefore, collaborating and communication are key.

PERIOD 2 - SALES / BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

What are you going to do?

The Bayards Sales organization can be split into two departments that are intertwined with one another: Internal Sales and the Sales Managers out in the field.

During this last module of the traineeship, you will start at the Internal Sales department where you will work on calculations and quotations. You will also join your colleagues on visits to the client to present these quotations and in the end, enable the best possible relationship.

Our clients are all over the world. This means every day, our very international Sales Team is working on maintaining existing and developing new relationships with clients. You will support one of our Sales Managers locally for a few months. This can be in either the U.S., Singapore, the Middle-East or Europe. In addition, you will also work on a business development assignment during this period.

How are you going to develop yourself?

The last six months of the traineeship you will focus on developing your selling skills, as well as seeing opportunities and getting into and remaining in contact with the client. Listening to the client and the market are therefore very important. In addition, your creativity and flexibility will be tested. Since there is a big chance of spending a few months abroad, you will learn a lot about working in a foreign culture.

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The training and development program for the Bayards Aluminium Technical Traineeship consists of the following two elements:

  1. Improving your personal effectiveness as a business professional

  2. Training on the job by doing projects within multiple departments of the company

Personal development

Within Bayards we don’t underestimate the impact of improving your personal effectiveness. That’s why during the entire traineeship, you will undergo different types of training that will improve your personal skills, as well as your personal leadership.

Training on the job

Of course the material aluminium will play a key role during the entire traineeship. Therefore, you will do a number of material based trainings during the traineeship.

Mentoring

Throughout the four modules of the traineeship you will be actively mentored by different mentors, a mentor at Management Team level and a program manager.
